About Rai

Renai Rai is a QPOC Shibari artist, educator, and performer.

There was no big eureka moment for me – my fascination with kink has always been innate. Prior to internet influence, my earliest exposure to the world of sex, taboo, science, and other human-related studies, came from the comforts of books at my childhood home. They were gateways for the awakening that already existed from within.

Eventually, I grew up and more influences came my way, but I’ve always gravitated to such topics. Growing up in a conservative family, my internal world is at dissonance with the environment I’m in, which led to a lot of pauses and stops with the explorations I wanted to do.

I’ve lived multiple lives in the span of 20+ years, living out versions of me that seem to be in complete opposition with each other, and yet all of them found space to co-exist and thrive when I took the leap of faith with kink.

My values and principles influence how I navigate mind and movement – with consent, communication, and compassion.

More than just for fun; this is my freedom.

Education

I began my Shibari education by actively bottoming from my previous rope top, with whom I had a rope partnership for over 4 years. Due to my natural curiosity, I did my best to reverse engineer and absorb my experiences with them to the best of my abilities, and translate that into a rope top perspective.

During the peak of the pandemic, I still had the opportunity to pursue my studies with the digital resources available to me, such as shibari.ph and shibaristudy.com. As the lockdowns eased, kind-hearted friends and acquaintances generously shared their time and energy with me to practice being a rope top with them.

2022 was when I took my training to the next level; Shibari PH started actively hosting workshops and rope jams again, and I was able to systematically train with them with regularity.

Since then, I’ve taken workshops and private tuition with experienced international practitioners who’ve visited the Philippines, enmeshing those studies with accumulated knowledge from BS Physical Therapy, martial arts, massage therapy studies, among many interests I’ve dived into.

I strive to keep my mind and heart open for continuous growth, for I’m always a student, always a beginner. My goal is always to keep up to date with safety practices to ensure satisfactory experiences.
